Okay, so I had to get the audio through the library because the Hardback is too expensive, but you can believe I have the mass market on pre-order!
I love reading about some stuff from long ago!
I hope the Drizzt books are written until the end of time! Well, our lives!

A great returns. R A Salvatore returned to the character he made great 30 years ago, who in turn also made Salvatore great. This story has many mysteries some are solved here, but this is really a set up book with huge ramifications to come.

Turns out rumors of the Dark Elf books’ demise was greatly exaggerated, and I couldn’t be happier.

Timeless is a bit good. It had its moments of brilliance but the names of the characters in the novel made comprehension difficult.
I received an ARC of this novel. As such, I will keep away from all spoilers and not give examples of scenes from the novel.

I think this is the first time it's taken me four days to read a Drizzt book. I usually lose sleep and meals - and other natural needs - to get to the end of each book. The release of Timeless coincided with moving home. As such, I had to make a decision: focus on moving home or read until I drop? I had to make a choice..

So glad I got to read this in advanced. This is everything I wanted and more. So glad that Salvatore decided to continue the story arc and keep my favorite characters alive and kicking.
Surprisingly better than i was expecting. Drizzt novels will always remind me of my childhood. Sometimes I feel like Salvatore can put too many characters into a story and it becomes overwhelming at times. I love his action scenes and I love feeling like I'm coming home to family when I read about these characters.

Salvatore and Drizzt are back and it doesn't disappoint. Firstly, I loved the Zak and Jarlaxle stuff, we all waited so long for their backstory and Bob gives us an awesome glimpse. At the same time we get a new story and a new threat that is woven very nicely. I wont get into the new story that much because it will spoil the story. I will say this feels very much like a trilogy and there was a fair amount of setup in this book. By now Salvatore has created a massive cast and I get why some chara..more

An excellent return to the Realms and Drizzt as he struggles with the unexpected challenges of the return of his father Zaknafein. Bob excellently blends some of the past and present, exploring both the past friendship between Jarlaxle and Zaknafein, as well as the struggle between father and son to relate outside the confines of Menzoberranzan.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. was pretty content with Hero being the end of this long-running series, even though there were some burning questions, and characters (like Doum’wielle), that we don’t know the whereabouts of. I think an entirely new series focusing on other characters could be started.

If you were among those getting fatigued by the direction of this series, I'd highly recommend giving these latest books another shot. I'm intrigued as to where all this is going and I'm truly enjoying this new arc.
I have to admit, I'm a long time Legend of Drizzt fan and I will always have a soft spot for this series, but the series fell into a bit of a slump for me somewhere around The Orc King and all the way through to The Last Threshold.

A breathtaking journey
It's nice to be back among friends, old and new. The journey twists and turns, and I do mean some unexpected turns. For me the most important area explored is the one between Drizzt and his father; remembering through a child's eyes and seeing through that of an adult.
We are also left with a precarious situation and we finally find out just who resurrected Zak. (Nope not telling you, read the book). I do wish the writer would get the Menzonberranzan bug out of his system...more

Once again, R.A. Salvatore has taken me into the underworld of Menzoberranzan and has entranced me with another fabulous tale of deceit, action and fun. I have been a fan since the Halfling's Gem and will continue to be one until his final word is written, but let's hope that is a very long time from now!! Thank you again to one of my favorite authors!

Mixed feelings
I am not thrilled by the fact that no one in this series ever truly dies. It used to be thrilling to have an old friend returned, but now it has become anticlimactic. That being said, I still can't walk away from this series. I love these characters, except, of course, for those who I quite understandably detest. So 4 stars to Mr. Salvatore, who once again has kept me turning pages, anxious to see what happens next.

Let me start by saying that I love Drizzt as a developing character but I'm so bored reading same stories about his life after and after again. R. A. Salvatore is so popular and successful when it comes to selling his books and I'm afraid he forgot how to observe real life to tell different parts of Drizzt's life in his books.

My one objection - and this is basically true of all his books - is that this is really, obviously just the setup for the next two in the series.
I'd almost rather he publish a giant The Stand meets Brandon Sanderson tome that includes an entire story.

I really need to read this again to have a full insight to it, but it was enjoyable and heart-tugging. Can't wait to get through it all over again.
I had high hopes that this would be the book that would bring me back into liking this series again. Sadly that didn't happen. I think some of the problem is the Drow city, its not a place that I like and it was supposed to be a place that Drizzt never interacted with or had ties to after leaving it, or so that was the characters main hope. I'm sure there are many fans who loved the book but I'm not one of them.

Salvatore gives readers what they want–stunning swordplay, fabulous magical battles, and demonic machinations. There is a fantastic amount of action in this novel always in the service of the plot making each scene not just entertaining but utile.

Couldn't do it. I made it 9 pages in. 9. Too many odd names, houses, life forms and allusions to prior books. Maybe I made a big mistake grabbing this one randomly as it's part of a larger series. This book may have been great. I just couldn't stay with it this time. I may circle back at a later date. I rarely quit on books. This one just lost me from the get go.

Your adventure party will be challenged with obstacles and challenges that test their mettle. Your resoluteness and will to fight are vital to complete the most difficult tasks. The Forgotten Realms will test the strongest fighters – how will you fare?
Devoted Cleric are the only healer class in neverwinter. Hindi non veg jokes. But this class is very versatile and can be played as DPS or even off-tank. Devoted Cleric have a good AOE DPS what can aggro the adds to him easily on top of his heals. That's one of the reasons some players do a semi-tank/healer build.
Fortunately, an ally is at your side: The Devoted Cleric. This versatile class is capable of handling any situation your party may encounter. In a support role, their heal abilities are unmatched in Neverwinter. In combat roles, the Devoted Cleric can punish foes with the likes of a seasoned Guardian Fighter. Many enemies have wrongly underestimated the power of a Devoted Cleric – with deadly consequences.
The Devoted Cleric can also turn the tide in battle with outstanding area control abilities and single-target holy damage. Furthermore, they can build divine power by dealing damage to enhance skill effects through channeling. Which spells should a devout Cleric focus on? Below are a few of the Devoted Cleric’s abilities.
Lance of Faith is their most reliable attack; few enemies can withstand incoming spears of light. To bend enemies to your will, encase them with the cleric’s alternate at-will Astral Seal power. Your party will recover health by attacking a spellbound enemy! If you prefer to channel your divine powers, press Tab to switch to a different set of divine powers. Punishing Light deals a steady stream of damage while Soothing Light restores health to the cleric and any ally he or she targets. The cleric’s versatility is key to keeping you and your party alive for the next dungeon delve!
There are even more powerful spells at your disposal, but for only the most experienced Devoted Clerics. One of the first encounter abilities available is Daunting Light, an area-of-effect spell that casts a divine column of light to rain down on enemies. Used with divine power, the Devoted Cleric can cast some spells quicker and affect a larger area! One of the first daily powers is Hallowed Ground. The cleric sanctifies an area to reduce incoming damage for allies and buffs their damage output in desperate times in battle – use it wisely!
This is only a small glimpse into the true power of a Devoted Cleric. One must fight alongside them to truly understand how invaluable and necessary they are. Play as a Devoted Cleric or recruit one for your adventures in Neverwinter’s Forgotten Realms today!
Stats[edit]
The Devoted Cleric's main ability score is Wisdom and secondary scores are Strength and Charisma.
Same entity damage as the Iron Reinforced Club. 7 days to die ammo crafting guide. Crafted from Short Iron Pipes (7).
The Devoted Cleric begins with the Religion skill which it can use to activate objects in the world and collect Skill Nodes.
Play Style[edit]
The Devoted Cleric does not play as a standard healer. He does not spam heals, instead he uses moves such as his second At Will to tag enemies which when other players damage also heal at the same time. The cleric also has the most aggro by far in Neverwinter which causes a lot of problems for more casual players trying to do later dungeons.
Clerics have a lot of pressure later on, especially in boss fights and the fact that many players do not understand the class can cause them to blame clerics when they go down.

Hi folks -
Was wondering what some recommended classes / combos tend to work well in any of the campaigns of both NWN 1 and 2. I've played a Paladin / Champion of Torm in the first NWN1 a few years ago but never finished, may end up playing something similar in that one. Basically I'm hoping to get the most out of my enjoyment from each. Playing a class with sneak attack in a game that has a lot of undead or resistant enemies doesn't sound like much fun. I don't intend to play the same type in each, but would like to try out a variety of classes and approaches to playing. Any recommendations - for example a party buffer type is very good in such and such, or rogues have a hard time in this one, or a caster class really shines in this game, this game has a low max level and is good for a basic class, etc?
Already read a few useful things such as certain skills having no effect in the OC of NWN1, and have heard good things about Druid / Monks in NWN1 (though that they don't synergize at all in NWN2) - any other tips?

Druid/Monk is a pretty bad combo in both games. Druids are spellcasters so they're not very pliable for multi-class builds to begin with, and at most you'd take one level as Fighter or Barbarian for weapon proficiencies. Druids as a single-class option is perfectly fine and easy to play, though, and will be very useful in any campaign. Monks are a little tricky, and tend to require careful optimization to function effectively, but they do have the tools to succeed. You just need to find a way to boost their damage output (which by default is painfully low for a melee specialist). I'm a big fan of the Fighter/Rogue combination. The Fighter gives you proficiencies and combat feats, while the Rogue gives you a huge influx of skill points, plus evasion and sneak attack. Because of your investment in Fighter you actually can do fairly well against sneak attack immune enemies.
Cleric, Druid, Wizard, and Sorcerer all deserve special mention as the primary spellcasters. These classes are insanely versatile and powerful, and while you do need to spend a little time getting to know their spell lists once you've picked out a couple effective favorites they're jaw-droppingly good. In NWN2 you have more friendly fire concerns due to the larger party, but you also have more allies to target with buff spells so they aren't any weaker.

As a matter of fact, I am playing NWN OC right now as an unarmed dwarf monk, with Sharwyn as companion.
Except few times when she glitches, or doesn't catch up with my speed, I never had any major problems so far.
I play on hardest difficulty.
My main concern though - and this is the reason I started a small cleric as well - is that it gets tedious at times to play a monk. A lot of good passives, but as active skills.. well, most of the times you simply watch things die, or just chain spam Improved Knockdown or Stunning Fist on casters, and that's about it.
Good thing is that you don't need to spend money on weapons, and gear, and you got a ton of gold remaining for top-of-the-line rings, belts, cloaks, etc.
My recommendation: if you don't mind just watching things die without too much effort, monk is a good class. But if you want diversity, just pick another.

There is this one place in HotU where vampires spawn endlessly. When I was in highschool I would just put my monk in that area and he would be well leveled when I got back that afternoon. Ah, good times. Can't kill a monk in parry mode unless you can through a hundread kobolts with pitchforks at him. Oh, casters are also decent against monks.

everkier161: have heard good things about Druid / Monks in NWN1 (though that they don't synergize at all in NWN2) - any other tips?
Darvin: Druid/Monk is a pretty bad combo in both games. Druid/monk (in NWN1) is an incredibly overpowered cheese combo, if you build it right. In low-magic settings, it is a strong contender for single most powerful build possible. (Note: HotU is not a low magic setting. Class is still pretty good, though) Three things to realise:
1] Monks add wisdom to their armour class, as long as they are unarmoured. Druids use wisdom to cast spells and get a huge wisdom buffing spell.
2] Monks get incredible bonuses to attack rate and the Flurry of Blows ability which adds even more attacks, as long as they are unarmed.
3] Druids can shapeshift into a giant bear. Giant bears are unarmoured and unarmed.
Result: You are now a stoneskinned, buffed to the nines, giant bear. A giant bear with a black belt in kung fu. (In game terms: you get up to six attacks per round. That's twice as many as a normal druid, and that's without haste. Oh, and you can easily get 10 or so WIS bonus armour class. Plus extra because you can take tumble.)
And it gets better:
4] When wildshaped, your physical stats are changed to that of the giant bear. However, your mental stats stay the same. So you can make a weezy weak STR 8 WIS 18 druid/monk (you don't need armour anyway) Then you shapeshift and get 31 STR and 19 CON in addition to your 18 WIS. Plus buffs.
5] As you gain levels, you can learn to shapeshift into elementals instead. And then a dragon. A kung fu dragon. (Or a kung fu iron golem, for fun with being immune to everything and having an insane armour class. All of a sudden, the Shapeshift spell is good.)
Oh, and 6] Monks get all this stuff at level 1. So you can still have almost full druid levels to cast Storm of Vengeance on everything. With maxed out WIS and greater spell focus. And then shapeshift into a kung fu iron golem. (You may want a second monk level at some point to max out discipline and tumble for even more tougness.)
As I said, this combo is cheesy as hell and overpowered as hell at mid levels when it starts to come into its own. (level 7-20, say.) In HotU it gets a bit outclassed eventually as all those great magic items you find don't really benefit you all that much, but it still works.
I don't recommend playing this in serious games, but it's worth trying out sometimes just to see how ridiculous it can get.
Finally, this indeed does not work in NWN2, because monks no longer get all those bonus attacks per round. (among other things.)
Edit:
everkier161: Already read a few useful things such as certain skills having no effect in the OC of NWN1
This is true. Specifically: Intimidate, Bluff and all the craft skills are useless in the OC. (Well, technically you can use the craft skills a little, but you will find very few ingredients.) Intimidate and bluff are only used in Hordes of the Underdark (and user-made modules, though by no means all of those)
Craft is.. pretty much useless in all the official campaigns, except to make your armour look cool. In single-player, I typically achieve this latter end by installing an override that lets me do it without investing skillpoints. Since it's purely a cosmetic change, I don't see why it should cost huge amounts of gold and skillpoints.

Wait, natural attacks count as unarmed attacks in NWN? Yet another difference between the various rule editions to keep track of.Jason_the_Iguana

If you want to go down the 'wild shape/monk' route, there's a prestige class called the shifter which gives large buffs to your wild shape at the cost of not advancing your animal companion or druid spellcasting (the latter of which you can't use while shapeshifted, incidentally; this is different in NWN 2, where there's a feat to allow you to do so). Not having tried it, my suspicion is that it won't be as strong as pure druid with a 1 level dip in monk, but that's by no means the same thing as being bad. You'd probably do something like druid 5 (giving you wild shape, and letting you meet the prestige class's prerequisites)/monk 1 (wisdom bonus to AC; also flurry of blows). Then take 10 levels of shifter (you can't take more than 10 until you're past level 20), 4 levels of druid, 7 more levels of shifter to max out the benefits, and the rest of your levels as druid if you get past that point. I plan to do a similar build myself at some point in the future.

- Use berserker or barbarian fighter kit, because of rage ability save you a lots of game ending effects. Plus both is easy to play. Stats spread: str-dex-con up to high as you can if you never mind min maxing the stats should be for half orc: 19-18-19-11-10-10. The weapon profs, the long swords are plenty of good, warhammers, scimitars, maces also not bad. Katanas are rare in the firs game so not worth it i think. If u use berserker go to grandmastery in one weapon. Dont forget dual wield fighting style, its the most dps option for a fighter type, and you need at least 2 pips to use it without too much penalties. If you dont want dual wield, than use two handed swords, u will find very strong ones from candlekeep to throne of bhaal, and later halberds has some good options.2·Share on Google+Share on TwitterShare on Facebook

- Yeah, that will be a good start for you. Personally I would have said either a dwarf berserker, a dwarf fighter/cleric or a gnome fighter/illusionst. The two latter would give spells but they are not needed so could be used situationally while you are learning. All three would give +5 to save rolls with 18 CON which is much more of a life-saver for a new player than +1 STR from being half-orc. But the berserker bonuses from the Rage skill will keep you alive through most/all of the Baldurs Gate!
Good luck and have fun!1·Share on Google+Share on TwitterShare on Facebook - @JakFrostzZ Where did you get that portrait? Its snazzy!0·Share on Google+Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
- I'd say the easiest build for a new player is probably a dual-wielding Barbarian.
You went with a Berserker instead which is close enough. You should be fine.
If you're planning on taking the same character into BG2 then don't disregard Katanas. They're very rare in the first game but you'll find some good magical ones in the second game. You also can't go wrong with the more abundant long/bastard swords though, so that's down to your personal opinion and play-style.0·Share on Google+Share on TwitterShare on Facebook - For a first timer - I was in the same boat a few months ago -, the 'tank' classes seem like a good choice overall. A lot of people favor the Barbarian and the Berserker, but if you're into dwarves (I think dwarves are awesome), you can't go wrong with a Dwarven Defender, which is by far the best tank there is.
I only just started playing around with a proper caster - the NPC mages are fine, tho -, and early game it can be rough. However, by level 7-8 the difficulty balances out, and I'm told - and stronly believe - casters become ungodly powerful in the second part of the series (assuming you're interested in carrying over to Baldur's Gate 2).0·Share on Google+Share on TwitterShare on Facebook - I’m all about a fighter cleric or mage multiclassed with thief.0·Share on Google+Share on TwitterShare on Facebook

Because of the fairly restrictive nature of multiclassing, there's not quite the same 'build' concept as you might find with NWN's 3rd edition system.By the way, there is any lace where i can see builds? im looking up but i can't find anything
Some notable quirks and particulars for character optimisation:
* For non-mages, optimal intelligence should be a multiple of 5 in a starting BG character, or 5+1 in a starting BG2 character.
* Never be a human unless you have to be (aka: You want to Dual Class or to be a Paladin)
* Never be a half-elf unless you have to be (aka: You want to be a Bard, Druid, Fighter/Druid, Fighter/Mage/Cleric, a Cleric/Ranger, or to romance a Dark Elf while still looking pretty)
* Never be an elf unless you have to be (namely: To be a Wild Mage, Sorcerer, or Fighter/Mage/Thief)
* There is basically no speciality Mage that is worth being one of the above.
* Never be a half-orc unless you want to hit things really, really hard (aka: You want a character with a natural 24 strength).
* Halflings make the best Fighter/Thieves (17 Strength isn't ideal, but easily dealt with by BG2 or ignored with items).
* Dwarves make the best Fighter/Clerics (17 Dexterity isn't ideal, but they get saves out the wazoo to compensate).
* Gnomes make the best Fighter/Mage, Mage/Thief, and Mage/Cleric (while they get a wisdom penalty they also have to be Illusionists, which means +1 spell slot per level over any other multiclass mage, and they get to start at 19 Int to boot).
* Constitution is actually a surprisingly good dump stat for non-short characters, since there's no difference between 7 and 14 whatsoever. The ideal break point for Constitution is either 8 or 17 for non-Fighters, and the HP bonus can easily be done without if you know what you're doing.
For Dwarf/Gnome/Halfling characters, the ideal break is 18 or 20 Constitution, since they get a hefty +5 saving throw bonus at 18 constitution and the difference between 20 and 21 is minimal. Death, Wand, and Spell saving throws include some of the nastiest saving throws in the game. Gnomes miss out on Death save bonuses.
* Only Fighters, Rangers and Paladins get APR bonuses from Weapon specialisation, and it's generally not worth specialising in your offhand weapon even then. The third pip in Two Weapon Style and the second pip in Two Handed Weapon are all but worthless. You only ever get 1 attack per round with your offhand weapon, it does not need +2 to hit.
* Other optimal proficiency choices you can find out yourself and I won't spoil, but I will note that a Fighter with a sling gets up to 3 APR with it, and adds their strength bonus to the damage, making them surprisingly powerful ranged weapons (daggers and axes also get throwing variants which add strength, but only really take off in BG2 due to limited ammo choices).
* Dual classing is the most obnoxious thing ever, but if you're doing it, do it right and remember your first class is your kit class.
Good break-off points are:
Fighters: 7 (first 1/2 APR), 10 (can still get max level in mage), 13 (second 1/2 APR, can still get level 39 in Thief, 38 in Cleric, 28 in Mage). 15 (Kensai get their last +1/+1).
Rangers: Do not dual your ranger, be a half-elf and multiclass your Cleric/Ranger instead, or dual a Fighter and get Grand Mastery for your Cleric.
Thieves: 6 (get 100 points in Detect Illusions), 9 (x4 backstab, can still get max level in mage), 11 (+2/+2/-3 Swashbuckler bonus at 10, and can still get level 39 Fighter), 13 (x5 Backstab for non-Swashbuckler, x4 max for Shadowdancer for breaking the game with Hide in Plain Sight stupidity), 15 (+3/+3/-4 Swashbuckler bonii, level 35 Fighter).
Clerics: Not generally optimal to dual out of unless you really want to sacrifice mage spells per day for some sequencer abuse.
Mages: You dual INTO Mage to increase their early game survivability with only minor downsides to long term power. You dual OUT of Mage to drastically decrease the survivability of whatever you dual into while crippling your long term power by not being a mage. Don't do that.
* Generally the 'best' build is subject to several decades of debate, but a vague top tier list is:
Illusionist/Thief
Illusionist/Cleric
Sorcerer
Wild Mage
Fighter/Illusionist
Dual classes into Mage
Any other specialist Mage
Any other mage multiclasses.
Generalist Mage
Cleric/Ranger with the Cleric/Ranger spell 'fix' disabled as god and nature intended.
Fighter/Mage/Thief
Fighter/Mage/Cleric
So yeah, Mage spells are pretty powerful once you know how and when to use them.3·Share on Google+Share on TwitterShare on Facebook- @Pantalion Thank you very much, this helps ALOT, i now have a idea what to do, thanks man!2·Share on Google+Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
